Three Generations Celebrate Mother's Day Working Together at Iceland
Flintshire, North Wales - This Mother’s Day, a unique family celebration is taking place at Iceland Food's headquarters where three generations of women are commemorating the occasion with pride in their shared workplace. Roz, 79, her daughter Dawn, 57, and granddaughter Kia Maddaford, 20, gather to honor a remarkable combined 56 years of service at the company.
Both Roz and Dawn joined Iceland in 1998, starting their journey as caterers at the head office. The family dynamic received a special boost when Kia joined the team in early 2023, securing a role in social media management. This fortuitous timing allowed Kia to work in the same building as her mother and grandmother, creating an environment rich in familial support and shared experiences.
Kia, who hails from Deeside, North Wales, expressed her enthusiasm about this unique opportunity. “It felt like fate when my mum told me about the opening at head office,” she said. “Being able to see my family every day, even after moving out, is perfect. If any of us are having a rough day, we're only a few steps away, and that support is invaluable.”
Roz, reflecting on their shared experiences, noted, “Who would have thought that all those years ago when I joined the team, I would have my daughter and granddaughter working alongside me? Not many nans get to see their children and grandchildren every day, and for that, I am truly grateful.”
Dawn echoed Roz’s sentiments, stating how rewarding it is to work alongside her family. “We couldn't be prouder of Kia. It's a joy to be able to see both my daughter and my mum every day,” she said.
Richard Walker, Executive Chairman of Iceland Foods, praised the family as exemplary representatives of the company’s values. "Kia, Dawn, and Roz embody everything that makes Iceland special—hard work, dedication, and a true sense of family," he remarked. "Their passion and commitment over the past 27 years is a testament to the culture we've built here, where colleagues are not just co-workers, they're family."
This weekend, the family plans to celebrate Mother’s Day together, reflecting on their time at Iceland and the memories they have created over the years. For Kia, being inspired by her mother and grandmother is a significant motivation for her professional journey. “They've set such a good example, and it makes me strive to make them proud,” she concluded.
As the three women continue to support and encourage each other in their daily work, their story serves as a testament to the strong bonds that can be formed in both family and the workplace.
